Creative Craft

Providing a practical course ranging from urban art to crafts to fine art. Students benefit from project-based learning that is supported by theory that embeds skills and techniques that support students in for creating businesses, considering work opportunities or to give an outlet for creative energy.

Course Outline

We are supported by the awarding body NCFE for our Creative Craft accreditations. All our courses are based on project-based learning with six projects taking place across the year.  The projects build on prior knowledge, skills and behaviours, are presented as a commission from a customer, to link to industry and work towards producing a product or feature.

We begin each new year with a project that allows all students to get to know each other and helps us to build a team.  The next 5 projects are based around the 5 following areas: Picture, Pattern, Textiles, Sculpture and Upcycling.  The exact focus of each project is not set until Term 1 as the students decide this together. Previous Team Building projects have included, students designing the upkeep of our entrance including a throne, gate, birdhouse, and a pallet sofa! The colours were chosen, by the students, to match the Craftworks logo and design.

Our Creative Craft team are Qqualified and very experienced in the creative industry. We have an array of employers that we work with, who get involved in our projects and support relevant external work experience for our learners. Many of our students go on to work in the creative industry or further develop their skills at higher education.

Levels

We run courses from Entry Level to Level 2 across Swale and Ashford sites.

Key Skill Development

Personal Development

Provides students with key skills needed to thrive both now and in their future. Students benefit from the Personal Development Curriculum to support them in Preparing for Adulthood with focussed sessions exploring three key areas: Myself, Community and Independence.

Interventions

These daily sessions, develops students personal areas of needs, w We have found that the outcomes within most EHCp are often vast and can be daunting for students to access them and achieve.  Students benefit from them to be broken down into manageable chunks and set as SMART targets. These targets are worked on regularly through bespoke interventions and reviewed regularly alongside students to encourage reflective thinking and progress.

Enrichment

Supports students in expanding their horizons by providing opportunities to engage in outings to cinemas, beaches, and museums, as well as hosting guest speakers to discuss local community opportunities and connections to local services, thus facilitating exploration of talents and interests.

Route of study


At Craftworks College, we are aware that all our students progress at their own rate and our routes of study have adopted the waves model of intervention into our Student Pathways to inspire success for all through an inclusive and fair learning environment.  Students capable of achieving a full qualification follow the Universal Pathway.  
Student that need their learning broken into smaller steps follow the Targeted Pathway, here they focus upon one unit at a time and achieve Unit Accreditation.  
Students that require our Specialist Pathway which breaks learning done into even small steps to ensure that they are able to achieve at their own specific level.
