Launching the Mill has been a long time coming…
Over 15 years in fact! All those years ago a group of young people started campaigning and fundraising for a Skatepark in Sittingbourne.
In 2016 a business plan was submitted to Swale Borough Council … and approved!!
Construction finally began in 2019, you can see the process on @themillskate on Instagram… and then the pandemic hit and launching The Skatepark was off the cards! In the midst of the lockdown, a community of young people grew there.
Over the last year, our youth team have organized activities over on the Skatepark, built relationships with those who regularly attend, we’ve even had a go ourselves! but nothing as big as this has happened! We wanted to take an opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in making ‘The Mill’ happen so far
We are really looking forward to a great day! We have Far Academy leading the displays, competitions, and tutorials all day, and alongside that also providing a screen printing workshop! We have the awesome Graffiti Stars workshop, where you can spray a design, and take it home with you. We have Funday Kent providing refreshments, as well as Miss Softee Ice Cream van, and a Games trailer.
The whole day is free – we just need you to sign up on arrival!
When you do, you will be entered into a prize draw (drawn at 4.30pm – but we’ll get hold of you if you have gone)! We have an Altarskate x Deathskateboards complete board to giveaway, scooter accessories, t-shirts, vouchers, and much more!
So come down to The Mill, on the 27th August 2021, 11-5pm (families welcome, although some activities only 8+), and enjoy the day celebrating & launching (officially) The Mill Skatepark, Sittingbourne
