Insect Hunts at Craftworks

Insects were the subject of discussion in Functional Skills this week, as our Muddy Wellies Students celebrated National Insect Week.

Insect Week organised by The Royal Entomological Society, encourages people of all ages to learn more about insects. It is supported by a large number of partner organisations with interests in the science, natural history, and conservation of insects.

FS tutor Debbie writes “thank you to Sarah for supporting us for the first part of the morning …and a huge thank you to Michael for teaching us all about the different insect groups and correcting misconceptions – students and tutor!!! Michael corrected us with such aplomb, I do feel he deserves a “Diplomatic Award”!!!

I learnt loads – thank you, Michael! The students enjoyed the Insect Hunt – and clearly enjoyed learning from first-hand experience. ”

As part of National Insect Week, our students then undertook some personal research as part of their functional skills, see their work below! Amazing – we are so glad you enjoyed finding out more about insects.
