Over the Easter holidays, our Vibe Youth Team spent some of their time hanging out down at Sittingbourne Skatepark (The Mill).
Last year, we were handed over ownership of the Skatepark, and due to the way 2020 panned out, we have not been able to hold too many events there. Over Easter, we were able to start building on the relationships created in the last year and now have a ‘core’ group of over 20 young people we know and regularly see. They have been helping us think about how we grow the community at the skatepark, including how we can introduce more mental health & wellbeing projects.
We were very privileged to have local, professional graffiti artist @shade2_uk join us for two afternoons, teaching some of the young people the art.
Some of the young people even designed their own throw up – it was a great couple of sessions and the young people are already asking for more. Check out the gallery below.
One afternoon we also had archery – some of the young people tried to see if they could do both together! These young people really care about the park, often cleaning it up or doing litter picks to make it a nicer environment.
It has been great to get to know the young people better (and some of the parents too!). The skatepark has a really good community vibe. Many of the parents are complimentary of the teenagers who are helping out their children with tips and tricks. We are at the park, every Wednesday, and every other Friday & Saturday.
